The Embassy of Italy in Hanoi is pleased to invite you to the workshop “Awaiting Biennale Architettura 2025: Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective.”, which will take place on Wednesday 9 April 2025 at 6:30 PM at Casa Italia (18 Le Phung Hieu, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi).
The event, in English language, aims to provide to the audience an in-depth look at the 19th Venice International Architecture Exhibition, one of the world’s most prestigious cultural exhibitions as well as an international platform for dialogue on architecture and contemporary art. This year’s edition, which is curated by Carlo Ratti and titled “Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective”, will take place from May 10 to November 23 in Venice. The exhibition is conceived as an invitation to rethink the definition of “intelligence” (and of architecture) as the ability to adapt to the environment with limited resources, knowledge, or power.
The event will open with some welcoming remarks by H.E. Marco della Seta, Ambassador of Italy to Vietnam, and will continue with speeches by:
- Trung Mai. Architect, urban designer, and creator of the “The Reincarnated Grid” project;
- Roberto Beraldo (online). Architect, President of the Association of Architects of Venice.
A Q&A session will follow.
Trung Mai will present its project “The Reincarnated Grid”, which will be exhibited at the Biennale Architettura 2025. “The Grid” was initially conceived as an adaptive reuse intervention within the abandoned Gia Lam Train Factory in Hanoi, excavating its latent spatial intelligence and treating it as an archaeological imprint of Vietnam’s industrial past. By embedding “The Reincarnated Grid” within the Biennale’s framework, the project recontextualizes Vietnam’s industrial legacy within a global dialogue and advocates for an architecture that is adaptive, responsive, and deeply embedded in the socio-historical continuum of the built environment.
For companies and institutions, the event will also represent an opportunity to explore possible sponsorship opportunities for Trung Mai’s “The Reincarnated Grid” project.
The workshop will conclude with a tasting of Italian food and wine as part of the “Sentiero diVino” initiative, in collaboration with Viet-It Wines and Caffè Italia.
For organisational reasons, you are kindly requested to confirm your participation in the event by writing an email (indicating your name and your organization) to culturale.hanoi@esteri.it by Monday April 7, 2025.
