ITER ALLOCATION OF CONTRIBUTIONS TO ITALIAN ARCHAEOLOGICAL MISSIONS ABROAD

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs supports Italian archaeological, anthropological, and ethnological missions abroad, covering a chronological range from prehistory to the medieval era and spanning geographically from the Greco-Roman world to the Near, Middle, and Far East, Africa, and Latin America.

Support for these missions is provided through an annual call for applications managed by Office XIII of the Directorate General for the Promotion of Economic Growth and Exports.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL COOPERATION BETWEEN ITALY AND VIETNAM
MAECI supports one research mission in Vietnam:

Archaeological Investigations and Conservative Restoration of the Cham Monuments of My Son.
Foundation Ing. Carlo Maurilio Lerici
The Mission, active since 2003 and directed by Dr. Patrizia Zolese, carries out archaeological research and conservation activities at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of My Son. The activities planned for 2026 include the continuation of the excavation of the eastern section of the enclosure wall of Group L to identify its presumed main entrance; the excavation of two exploratory trenches, respectively in the northwestern area of the site (to determine the presence of additional structures) and on the artificial terrace east of the enclosure wall (to establish its function); the continuation of the graphic and photographic documentation, conservation, and restoration of the archaeological materials stored in the site’s repository; the updating of the site survey to support the 3D digital reconstruction of the archaeological site and its monuments; the launch of conservation work on Building L1; and the continued training of local personnel in archaeological excavation techniques, brick monument conservation, and the study of archaeological materials.
