The Embassy of Italy in Hanoi is pleased to present the tenth edition of the Italian Design Day in Vietnam (IDD). Launched in 2017 by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the IDD is an annual initiative conceived to promote the history and modernity of Italian design and architecture worldwide, as well as to foster the exchange of experiences and innovative practices. Since its first edition, more than one thousand events have been organized within the framework of the initiative by the network of Italian Embassies, Consulates and ICE Offices abroad, with the involvement of hundreds of designers, architects, entrepreneurs, journalists and professionals from the sector.

The theme of the 2026 edition is “REDESIGN. Regenerating Spaces, Objects, Ideas, and Relationships”. The title emphasizes the concept of regeneration as a key interpretative lens for contemporary design, highlighting the role of architecture in the renewal of spaces, objects and relationships in light of the social, cultural and environmental transformations of our time.

The GDI also serves as a platform to promote major events dedicated to Italian design, including the “Salone del Mobile di Milano” (Milan, 21-26 April 2026). Founded in 1961, it represents the leading international event in the furniture and design industry.

In Hanoi, the tenth edition of the Italian Design Day took place on 12 March 2026 at the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE), a longstanding partner of the Embassy in organizing the initiative. The event featured a roundtable discussion with the participation of Arch. Tiziano Vudafieri, Italian Design Ambassador in Vietnam for the 2026 edition, Prof. Nguyễn Cao Lãnh, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning at HUCE, and architects Hoàng Thúc Hào and Trung Mai, moderated by Nguyễn Phan Thùy Dương, Editorial Director of ELLE Decoration Vietnam.

The initiative forms part of the Embassy of Italy in Vietnam’s broader activities of cultural diplomacy and economic promotion, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the fields of design, architecture and the creative industries.
