26th Week of the Italian Language in the World: Events in Hanoi (15–24 October 2026)

Locandina SLIM 2026

From 15 to 24 October, Hanoi will also celebrate the 26th Week of the Italian Language in the World (SLIM), dedicated this year to the theme “A Brilliant Language: Conceiving, Designing and Creating in Italian.” Held under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic, the event features a rich programme of events and initiatives aimed at promoting the knowledge and spread of the Italian language in Vietnam. The activities are organised in collaboration with the Department of Italian Studies at Hanoi University (HANU) and Uni-Italia Vietnam.

This year’s edition aims to highlight how the Italian language is not merely the heir to a long history and cultural tradition, but also a vehicle for Italian know-how, synonymous with quality, creativity and excellence recognised worldwide. Italian is, in fact, a strategic tool for promoting innovation and supporting the country’s economic growth. Its value is evident across numerous fields, from technology and science to design, fashion and gastronomy, helping to project a dynamic and innovative image of Italy around the world.

On Monday, 19 October, starting at 9:30 a.m., the opening ceremony of the SLIM will take place at the Department of Italian Studies at HANU. The ceremony will feature speeches by Italy’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Marco della Seta, and the University’s Rector, Nguyen Van Trao. From 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., visitors will also have the opportunity to sample Italian food, ice cream and coffee at the Italian food and cultural fair held on the university campus.

On Wednesday, 21 October, the Department of Italian Studies at HANU and the Foreign Language Specialized School will host a wide range of activities, including the “Fatti Sentire ItaHANU 2026” competition to find the best Italian speaker, the writing of a message of peace as part of the “Sail of Peace” initiative, and a seminar dedicated to Italian cuisine.

On Thursday, 22 October, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the musical and theatrical performance “La notte di Passione 2026” will be staged by students from Hanoi University.

The week’s activities will conclude on Saturday, 24 October, when Casa Italia will once again host the “Italian Days on Higher Education – Study in Italy” fair in its garden. The event will showcase the academic programmes offered by Italian universities, while in the Sala Generali, students from Maya School will have the opportunity to discover some of Italy’s most prestigious universities.
