13th European Day of Languages:

‘A Festival of Languages’

Time: Saturday 23 November 1:30-5:00 p.m.

Venue: Goethe-Institut Hanoi

56 – 60 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ba Dinh, Hanoi

Have you ever wondered what advantage there is in learning languages? Have you ever considered the diversity of Europe and how many different languages are spoken there? Each year, the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) member states organise the European Day of Languages, a varied event where anyone, young or old, can learn something about the great variety of European languages and cultures.

This year, the European Day of Languages takes place on Saturday November 23, from 13:30 to 17:00, at the Goethe-Institut Hanoi. The event is aimed at the general public: students of all ages, their families, or anyone with a general interest in Europe, languages, and culture.

Short, fun language classes of 30 minutes each are offered in Czech, English, French, Finnish, German, Italian, Irish, Polish, and Spanish, as EUNIC experts show off their teaching skills. In the lessons, participants can learn some basic vocabulary and communicative phrases in the target languages, in a relaxed and positive environment.

‘Speak-dating’ is also on offer. Can you keep up with the quick-fire taster activity that allows young and old their first contact with each of these languages in rapid succession: five minutes of interaction with each language community is bound to end in laughs! In addition, there will be a chill-out space, with a book corner and short videos from each country, as well as an intriguing quiz leading to a lucky draw with great cultural prizes.

The 13th European Day of Languages is a unique opportunity for anyone from the Hanoi community interested in European languages, culture, international exchange, or overseas study. This year, there is a special focus on mutuality, encouraging community harmony.

No registration is required for the Festival of Languages. Entrance to all events is free.
