Italian agrifood sector mission to Vietnam

A mission of the Italian agri-food sector took place in Vietnam from 10 to 14 July. Formed by the President of the agri-food division of Alleanza delle Cooperative and by representatives of Confagricoltura, ASSICA, ASSOAVI, ASSOMELA and Naturitalia, the delegation took part in the visit to Vietnam of the EU Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Woiciechowsky.

In Hanoi, the Italian delegates had meetings with the Embassy and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam. They also participated in a seminar on the perspectives of agri-food trade between the EU and Vietnam. In Ho Chi Minh City, the delegation visited the main food distribution chains and attended a Business Forum session and B2B meetings with European and Vietnamese counterparts. The delegation also met the Consul General, the Director of Italian Trade Agency and the President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam.

The interests of the Italian agri-food sector in Vietnam consist of a a greater access to the Vietnamese market – deemed very promising due to the progressive expansion of its middle class – and of a solution of technical and phytosanitary issues that currently hinder the full implementation of the EVFTA ( Europe Vietnam Free Trade Agreement). Italy is also a significant importer of Vietnamese products and is interested in improving the quality and safety standards of local food supply chains.
