XVI WEEK OF THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE IN THE WORLD

Like every year the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation celebrates throughout the diplomatic-consular network the Week of the Italian Language in the World to reaffirm the importance of teaching Italian as a vehicle of culture and as an engine of knowledge and innovation.

The theme of the XVI edition is ”Italian and creativity: brands and costumes, fashion and design“. Around these topics the Embassy, ​​in cooperation with qualified partners, has planned a series of cultural and promotional initiatives in order to provide the Vietnamese and international public with numerous options to explore various aspects of our culture through the language and the Italian style.

This is the calendar of planned events:

 

VIETNAM FASHION WEEK (September 29 to October 2, VTV)

During the most prestigious fashion event in Vietnam organized by the famous fashion designer Minh Hanh, active engine of the Italo-Vietnamese Fashion Council, two young Italian designers from IUAV of Venice, Xhefri Londo and Anita Pierobon, present their creations of Prêt-à-porter and Haute couture. An opportunity to value the creativity of young talents in the promotion of cultural relations and the excellence of the Italian brand in the fashion industry.

 

EU SCHOLARSHIPS INFO DAYS (October 1, International Congress Center)

Within the framework of an orientation day promoted by the European Union Delegation to Vietnam, the Embassy and Uni-Italia participate with a stand dedicated to the offer of scholarships from the Italian Universities, especially in technology, design and fashion.

 

AO DAI FESTIVAL (October 14 to 17, Thang Long Citadel)

The cooperation with the Italo-Vietnamese Fashion Council, the fashion designer Minh Hanh and the IUAV of Venice is also reflected in a working group aimed at creating some Ao Dai (traditional Vietnamese dress) by IUAV students, which are then made by local artists and model during the Festival. An ideal bridge between Italy and Vietnam aimed at promoting a better knowledge of the Vietnamese tradition with a touch of Italian creativity.

 

OFFICIAL OPENING OF XVI LANGUAGE WEEK (October 17, Hanoi University)

As per tradition, the official opening of the Week of Language is held at the Department of Italian Studies of Hanoi University with the attendance of the Ambassadors of Italy and Switzerland. During the ceremony several interventions focused on the XVI Week themes allow to clarify the meaning of this annual celebration and to renew the interest in the study of Italian.

After the ceremony there is the inauguration of the students fair on Italian culture, extraordinary opportunity to learn our language through cultural activities.

 

LAUNCH OF ITALIAN LANGUAGE COURSES (October 18, Casa Italia)

The themes of the XVI Week are also at the heart of the new Italian language courses organized by the Embassy and run by Uni-Italy at Casa Italia, the center of promotion of the Italian excellence in the field of culture and entrepreneurship.

A nice opportunity for those who intend to approach the study of the Italian language, which will allow – thanks to the teaching of qualified teachers and under the constant supervision of the Embassy – to reach B1 level starting from A1 level by following an entertaining path along the main guidelines of the Italian culture. THEMATIC CONFERENCE (October 19, Hanoi University)

The interventions of qualified speakers at the Hanoi University are also focused on Italian creativity.

Cav. Giacomo Valentini, President of “Orobianco”, deals with the theme of Italian creativity analyzing it from the business perspective; Prof. Fausto Pugnaloni, Universita’ Politecnica delle Marche, illustrates how Italian creativity has allowed a vast work of study, analysis and preservation of valuable cultural Cham heritage in central Vietnam; Professor Davide Delfino, Universita’ di Perugia, moves the analysis on the delicate field of medicine, another area of ​​Italian excellence.

 

EUROPEAN LANGUAGES DAY (October 29, Goethe Institut)

Ranking 4th among the most studied languages ​​in the world, also this year Italian has its proper place within the European Languages ​​Day celebrations, an annual event promoted by the informal group EUNIC, which aims at highlighting the importance of multilingualism as a means of strengthening cultural relations between peoples.

 

HANOI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (November 1-5)

Cinema is certainly one of the most known Italian cultural expressions abroad and a symbol of creativity that characterizes the Italian genius. That is why Italy participates as guest of honor at the 4th International Film Festival in Hanoi with the screening of 5 films: “Miracle in Milan”, “Rocco and His Brothers”, “Io, loro e Lara”, “Viaggio in Italia”,” Caterina in the Big city”.

Italy had the great honor to organize an outdoor screening, right after a fashion show arranged by the Italian designer Riccardo Bianco Levrin who has been working in Vietnam for many years. The event took place in Ly Thai To Square and attracted hundreds of people.

 

30th ANNIVERSARY OF THE ITALY-VIETNAM FRIENDSHIP ASSOCIATION (November 10, VUFO and Casa Italia)

For 30 years the Italy-Vietnam Friendship Association has been realizing significant cultural events for the promotion of bilateral relations.

In addition to a memorial ceremony, a panel discussion was focused on the topics of the XVI Week and on the new opportunities for increasing the Rome-Hanoi relations. Moreover, an amusing cultural event on food and music concluded the celebrations at Casa Italia.

 

VIETNAM EYE (November 14, Casa Italia)

Vietnamese artistic creativity with Italian excellence in publishing: this is the combination to the origins of the “Vietnam Eye” project, promoted by the Saatchi Gallery in London in collaboration with Skira and AIA. The works of about 70 Vietnamese young talents are on display at Casa Italia and are at the core of a dedicated catalog.

 

ITALIAN DAYS ON HIGHER EDUCATION (November 19, Casa Italia)

After the success of last March, the Embassy and Uni-Italia organize a new fair of the Italian universities to promote the educational offer, especially in the fields of economics, engineering, design and fashion. A useful opportunity for Vietnamese students who wish to discover the opportunities of studying in our country both from a point of view of cultural cooperation and of development of professional skills.
