Over the years, bilateral relations have experienced steady intensification and this has also affected the frequency of institutional visits.

FROM ITALY

– 2008 Minister of Economic Development Claudio Scajola, who led a business mission together with over 170 companies.

– 2009 Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs Stefania Craxi.

– 2012 Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi di Sant’Agata, during whose visit it has been decided to start the negotiations for the conclusion of a strategic partnership, so as to elevate bilateral relations as a whole, particularly the economic ones.

– 2013 Minister of Defense Giampaolo Di Paola.

– 2013 Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Archi.

– 2014 Vice President of the Chamber Marina Sereni.

– 2014 President of the Council of Ministers, Matteo Renzi (first time of an Italian Prime Minister in Vietnam).

– 2014 Undersecretary of Defense Domenico Rossi, who has co-chaired the bilateral dialogue on defense.

– 2014 Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs Benedetto Della Vedova, who led a new mission, during which they were reached the final steps for the definition of the new Action Plan for 2015-2016 of the Strategic Partnership.

– 2015 Chairman of the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee Pierferdinando Casini, who also attended the Inter-Parliamentary Union summit.

– 2015 President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella (first time of an Italian Head of State in Vietnam), accompanied by Minister of Economic Development Federica Guidi. During the historic visit the President met with all the top leaders of the country and went also to Halong Bay and Ho Chi Minh City.

– 2016 The R.H. Milena Santerini, member of the Commission for Culture and Education of the Chamber of Deputies.

– 2016 Minister of Transport Graziano Delrio, who met with Prime Minister Phúc, Minister of Transport Nghia and President of People’s Committee of Hanoi Chung.

– 2016 Minister of Justice Andrea Orlando (first visit of an Italian Minister of Justice), who met with Prime Minister Phúc, President of National Assembly Ngan and Minister of Justice Long.

– 2017 Undersecretary of State for Culture Dorina Bianchi, who attended the Fair of Tourism in Ho Chi Minh City and met with vietnamese authorities in the field of tourism.

– 2017 Undersecretary of State for Economic Development Ivan Scalfarotto, who met with Prime Minister Phúc, the Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment and the Vice Minister of Transport.

In addition to these bilateral visits there are constant contacts between Italian and Vietnamese Authorities on the sidelines of international multilateral meetings (such as ASEM).
