Approaching the end of her mission in Vietnam, Ambassador Cecilia Piccioni has begun a series of farewell meetings with the most senior positions in the Vietnamese State.

The Minister of Justice, Le Thanh Long, first of all welcomed the results achieved in recent years on the collaboration between the Ministries of our countries, among which the visit to Vietnam by Minister Andrea Orlando and the signature of the Memorandum of Cooperation stand out. He then conferred on the Ambassador the "Medal for the contribution to the development of justice".

Hanoi Communist Party Secretary Hoang Trung Hai and Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung praised the efforts made in recent years to strengthen the collaboration between the city of Hanoi and the regional as well as metropolitan realities of Italy. A fruitful collaboration that has opened up new opportunities in many sectors and has created a privileged relationship between our country and the Vietnamese capital, always ready to support numerous promotional initiatives.

During the cordial meeting with Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyen Ngoc Thien, they evoked the intensification of cultural relations between our countries, the deepening of the people-to-people relations and the promising roadmap of the priority events that will be carried out in the next few years, which have been recently outlined on the occasion of the signing of the Executive Program on cultural cooperation between Italy and Vietnam for the period 2018-2021.

During the meeting with Prime Minister, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, based on the traditional friendship characterizing the relations between the Italian and the Vietnamese people, they addressed the main topics of the bilateral and multilateral agenda, on which Italy and Vietnam are working fruitfully within the framework of the strategic partnership. It was also expressed the common hope that the EU-Vietnam FTA could soon be signed and ratified and that Vietnam could find an adequate solution to certain aspects that could slow down this important process, with the ultimate goal of making the European and Vietnamese markets even more integrated and ensuring compliance with all international standards in various sectors.

While saying goodbye to the Prime Minister, Ambassador Piccioni offered him as a present a painting created by Italian artist Laura Federici during her artistic staying in Vietnam in 2017.

 

Ambassador Cecilia Piccioni recently met the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong, the Deputy Minister of Finance Tran Xuan Ha and the Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Hong.

During the meeting with Minister Cuong, they recalled the fruitful efforts made in recent years to intensify the commercial exchanges of agricultural and fish products between the two countries and renewed the commitment to work more closely in this area, also in view of the finalization of the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the European Union.

During the visits to the MOF and the SBV, the Ambassador thanked the two institutions for their constant support to the activities of the Embassy, ​​in particular in the definition and implementation of the development cooperation programs, and took the opportunity to introduce the Financial Attache’ of the Bank of Italy, Mr. Pietro Ginefra, who follows the Asean countries from the Italian Embassy in Singapore. The shared wish is to strengthen the cooperation between Italy and Vietnam in the economic and financial field, in order to better tackle the significant global challenges that the two countries are facing in these sectors.

 

Ambassador Cecilia Piccioni also met the Chairwoman of the National Assembly, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, in the presence of the President of the Culture Commission of the NA cum Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee of Friendship Vietnam-Italy, Phan Thanh Binh.
During the cordial meeting, the intensification of contacts between the Parliaments of our countries was recalled and a further increase was hoped for in the future, possibly also through the visits to Vietnam by the President of the Senate, Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, and the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Roberto Fico, recently invited to the country. The inter-parliamentary collaboration between Italy and Vietnam is further evidence of the friendship that binds our countries and of the quality of our strategic partnership.

During the farewell meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nguyen Phuong Nga, Ambassador Cecilia Piccioni was bestowed with the medal of the Order of Friendship, the highest Vietnamese recognition to foreign citizens who have distinguished themselves for contributing to strengthening relations between their country and Vietnam.

Ambassador Piccioni, in thanking both the Vice Minister Nga for the words of appreciation and esteem for the work carried out over the past 3 years of her term in Vietnam and the Secretary General-President of the Republic Nguyen Phu Trong for the prestigious award, wanted to dedicate the latter to all those who, Italians and Vietnamese, build up the Italian System in Vietnam and over the past few years have allowed to achieve significant results in many areas of bilateral cooperation.

Such award is of particular importance, as it is the first decision by the new Head of the Vietnamese State concerning honors to foreign citizens. It represents further evidence of the sincere friendship that binds our countries, which this year celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 5th anniversary of the strategic partnership.
