“Primadonna” by Marta Savina
Synopsis
In southern Italy in the 1960s, Lia Crimi lives with her family in a small rural village. The daughter of a farmer and a housewife, she leads a simple life, divided between working in the fields and taking care of her younger brother Mario. During the Christmas holidays of 1966, the return of Lorenzo Musicò, the son of an influential local mafia boss, disrupts the peace of her life. Lorenzo, fascinated by Lia, unsuccessfully tries to win her over. Faced with her refusal, he takes an extreme step: he kidnaps her, convinced he can force her into a “rehabilitating marriage.” Supported by her family, Lia refuses to give in to social pressure and decides to report Musicò for kidnapping and assault. Her decision, however, puts her in open conflict with the mentality of the village, which turns its back on the Crimi family.
