“The Barber of Seville” by the Artemis Danza company in Hanoi and Haiphong

“The Barber of Seville” by the Parma contemporary dance company “Artemis Danza”, directed by Monica Casadei, was staged on Monday, October 16th at the prestigious Hanoi Opera House and on Tuesday, October 17th at the Haiphong Opera House. In this reinterpretation of the famous opera by maestro Gioachino Rossini, in which the character of Figaro is reinterpreted in a modern key, the plot develops through dance and the most famous arias of Rossini’s opera are mixed with the electronic music by composer Luca Vianini.

The event, which had a large and qualified participation in both evenings, was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam in Hanoi and the People’s Committee of the city in Haiphong, as part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Italy and Vietnam.

The Vietnamese Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ta Quang Dong, as well as the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Le Thi Thu Hang, were also present at the Hanoi Opera House. Vice Minister Dong delivered a speech at the opening of the event recalling the recent state visit to Rome (at the end of July) of Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong, praising the achievements of 50 years of diplomatic relations and 10 years of strategic partnership, and highlighting the role of culture as a bond between our two countries.

In Hanoi, a group of students from the National Academy of Dance of Vietnam – where the Artemis Danza company had held a masterclass in the morning – actively participated in the show, dancing together with the Italian dancers and thus offering a concrete example of cultural cooperation between Italy and Vietnam.
