GET-TOGETHER ON “DIPLOMACY IN THE DIGITAL ERA: A FEMALE PERSPECTIVE”

Last Monday, the Ambassador of Italy to Vietnam, Ms. Cecilia Piccioni, launched the first ever informal dialogue among female Ambassadors in Hanoi and their female colleagues from the local Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Around 60 high ranking female diplomats from all over the world exchanged ideas and shared experiences with their Vietnamese friends and colleagues on the chosen topic: “Diplomacy in the Digital Era: a Female Perspective” with the participation of the Vietnamese Senior Advisor for APEC 2017, Ambassador Nguyen Nguyet Nga, spouse of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh.

The relaxed and friendly format allowed for candid and spontaneous dialogue regarding the different challenges diplomacy is presently facing in a world dominated by social media, real-time information and fake news.

Thanks to the success of the event, the initiative will most likely become an annual appointment to allow for refreshing and fruitful exchanges on pertinent issues, conducted with an informal approach and in a “ladies for ladies” spirit.

The embassy of Italy is deeply proud to have been given the opportunity to jumpstart such an exciting project thanks to the meaningful and enthusiastic participation of so many female diplomats highly committed to their duties.
