ENROLLMENT TO ITALIAN UNIVERSITIES FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS (ACADEMIC YEAR 2026-2027)
STEP 1: PRE-ENROLLMENT
We inform all students that pre-enrollment to Italian universities for the academic year 2026-2027 is now open. Foreign students must register on the website www.universitaly.it and follow the instructions.
Once the pre-enrolment confirmation has been received through the portal, students may apply for a study visa through VFS Global Italy Visa Application Centre . All relevant information is available in Step 2 of this page.

STEP 2: STUDY VISAS
To apply for an Italian study visa (fee: €50, payable in cash in VND according to the exchange rate valid at the time of application), applicants must submit the following documents together:
- National visa application form (modello di domanda di visto D;);
- Passport valid for at least 1 year and 3 months beyond the visa expiry date, with at least two blank pages for the visa and entry/exit stamps;a photocopy of the passport identification page;
- One recent passport-sized color photograph (white background, dimensions 35 × 40 mm, taken within the last six months), to be affixed to the application form;
- Copy of the national identity card;
- Residence permit and work permit in Vietnam (applicable only to foreign nationals residing in Vietnam);
- Certificate of residence of the student and all other household members (Form CT07);
- Copy of the pre-enrollment receipt obtained through the Universitaly portal, or other relevant documentation in the case of pre-enrollment at Institutions of Higher Artistic, Musical and Dance Education (AFAM), Higher Schools for Linguistic Mediation (SSML), Institutes of Specialization in Psychotherapy, or Post-Diploma Technical Specialization Courses organized by Higher Technical Institutes;
- One-way flight reservation to Italy;
- Proof of accommodation in Italy: a hotel reservation covering at least the first week of stay, or documentation demonstrating that accommodation has already been paid for or is being provided free of charge in Italy, or a declaration of hospitality (click here to the form);
- Health insurance covering the first month of stay, with a minimum coverage of €30,000, valid throughout the Schengen area;
- Copy of the Declaration of Value (DoV) for the educational qualification (issued by the Italian Embassy), or CIMEA certificates of comparability and verification of authenticity;
- Proof of sufficient financial means to support the stay in Italy (minimum amount not less than €848.32 per month, equivalent to €10,179.85 per year). Financial resources must be demonstrated through the student’s own income or that of family members (e.g., bank statements, tax returns, business licenses, social security contributions, pension statements, etc.). Recipients of scholarships granted by the Italian Government are not required to provide proof of financial means. However, if the scholarship amount is lower than EUR 10,179.85, the student must provide evidence of sufficient financial resources to cover the difference. Please note: Savings books or savings accounts alone are not considered sufficient proof of financial resources. Bank guarantees, surety bonds, cash, or guarantees provided by third parties are not accepted;
- Letter of acceptance from the Italian university;
- Language certification; for programs taught in Italian: an Italian language certificate at a minimum B2 level, or an educational qualification obtained in Italian. For programs taught in English: an IELTS or TOEFL certificate, a degree completed in English, or an educational qualification obtained in an English-speaking country equivalent to B2 level proficiency;
- Additional supporting documentation: the applicant may submit any further documents deemed useful, as well as any documents that may be requested by the Visa Office;
IMPORTANT NOTES
– The required documentation must be submitted at least 15 days prior to departure. If the documentation is submitted less than 15 days before departure, a letter explaining the reasons for the late submission is required; such justification will be assessed at the sole discretion of the Embassy.
– Any documentation submitted in Vietnamese in support of a visa application must be provided as a certified true copy of the original and accompanied by a translation into English or Italian.
– Documents in Vietnamese intended for use in Italy (for example, for scholarship applications) must be legalized by the Consular Department of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (40 Tran Phu, Ba Dinh, Hanoi) and translated into Italian by an authorized translator.
–Under no circumstances will the documentation submitted by applicants in support of their visa application be returned.
– Visa applications may be submitted at the offices of VFS Global Italy Visa Application Centre in Hanoi by booking an appointment online.

-If the applicant is a minor (under 18 years of age), the following documents are required: the birth certificate; the Embassy consent form for the minor’s travel abroad, signed personally by the parents at the Embassy, indicating the guardian in Italy; the original letter of acceptance from the guardian stating their place of residence, together with a copy of the guardian’s identity document including the signature page. If the designated guardian is a non-EU citizen residing in Italy, copies of their passport and residence permit are also required (with validity at least until the minor reaches eighteen years of age).
