A delegation of the Lombardy Region led by President Attilio Fontana has just concluded its visit to Hanoi, in the framework of an institutional mission to Vietnam. The delegation, which also includes the Region’s Undersecretary for International and European Relations, Raffaele Cattaneo, the Secretary General of Confindustria Lombardia, Dario Voltattorni, as well as representatives of the Lombard academic sector and the UCIMU Group, was engaged in high-level institutional meetings to further consolidate the already excellent relations between Lombardy and Vietnam.
Meetings were held yesterday with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, Do Hung Viet, and with the Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, Tran Sy Thanh, during which the delegations identified new synergies and further opportunities for collaboration between Vietnam and the city of Hanoi on the one hand and Lombardy on the other. Since Lombardy is the main Italian exporting region, they first discussed how to increase trade and promote Made in Italy, without neglecting the possible cooperation in the cultural, university, tourism and urban development fields.
At the end of the day, President Fontana and the delegates of the Lombardy Region met the Lombard community – entrepreneurial and non-entrepreneurial – living and working in Hanoi, at the Residence of the Ambassador of Italy,
Today, the delegation first visited the production plants and met the employees of Hung Yen Knitting & Dyeing Co. Ltd, a historic Italian investment in Vietnam belonging to the Lombard Carvico Group.
The last meeting in Hanoi was the one with the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh, during which it was reiterated that, in the year that marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Italy and Vietnam intend to seize all opportunities for collaboration and further promote economic and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
The institutional mission will now continue in Ho Chi Minh City, where the delegation will hold a meeting with the People’s Committee of Binh Duong and visit the Eastern International University. On the occasion of the stop in Ho Chi Minh City, a Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Insubria and the local University of Economics and Finance will also be signed.
