The Embassy of Italy in Vietnam is pleased to present the opera “Cavalleria Rusticana”, which will be held on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 April at the Hanoi Opera House.
For the first time in many decades, the public of Hanoi will have the opportunity to enjoy a full opera in costume.
Organized by the Saigon Philharmonic Orchestra in collaboration with the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet and the Hanoi Opera House and with the support of the Italian Embassy, this opera is especially produced to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Vietnam.
The “Cavalleria Rusticana” is known as the most famous work by Italian composer Pietro Mascagni. It was premiered in 1890, causing one of the greatest sensations in opera history and immediately becoming the finest example of “Verismo” (from the Italian word “vero” meaning “true, real”). Set in Sicily on an Easter morning, the story powerfully displays deep emotions such as love and jealousy, despair and cruelty, passion and drama.
The Italian tenore Giovanni Maria Palmia will perform the leading role of “Turiddu”. He will be directed by maestro Fan Ting and will join many talented Vietnamese and international singers, musicians and actors in a truly memorable night for all music-lovers.
