MEETING OF AMBASSADOR PICCIONI WITH THE DEPUTY CHAIRWOMAN OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY PHONG

Ambassador Cecilia Piccioni met on a courtesy call the Deputy Chairwoman of the National Assembly, Tong Thi Phong, who in the coming days will travel to Rome for official meetings with the leaders of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.

The visit of the VP Phong joins the more and more growing number of exchange of bilateral visits in both directions, which confirm the excellent state of Italo-Vietnamese relations. With regard to representatives of the two parliaments, the President of the National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung, had gone to Italy in 2014, while from Rome the Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies, Marina Sereni, visited Vietnam in 2014 and the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Commission of the Senate, Pierferdinando Casini, came in 2015 on the occasion of the IPU General Assembly.

During the cordial meeting, characterized by feelings of deep friendship between the two peoples, Ambassador Piccioni and VP Phong addressed the main areas on which the fruitful cooperation between the two parliaments is focusing, as well as the possibility to further increase it, also at multilateral level (like ASEM).

Identity of views was also recorded on the propositive and propulsive role that parliamentary assemblies bear in the democratic life of the two countries and on the opportunity to focus future discussions on the importance of small-medium enterprises and the preservation of cultural heritage.
