WORLD MUSIC DAY 2018

On June 21, the World Music Day is celebrated all over the world.

The Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, the Central Institute for Audio and Audiovisual Assets, in collaboration with the SIAE and with the support of the major suppliers of digital music services, have launched the web Portal of the Italian Song www.canzoneitaliana.it, a platform for the online listening to over a century of Italian music.

Divided into four macro-areas, the Portal offers a free stream of over 200,000 songs, enriched with images and pages by historians Luciano Ceri and Paolo Prato, who, by selecting 100 thematic playlists, have built listening and research paths in the wide sound archive.

In addition to going through the history of Italian song, the Portal also documents the rich cultural and linguistic heritage of the Italian regions.

To celebrate the Music Day, the Embassy of Italy, in collaboration with the Hotel Sofitel Metropole, organizes a concert that, after classical music and jazz of the previous editions, intends to offer the public a mix of genres in the name of the multicultural meeting and Italian-Vietnamese friendship. We will listen to a classical guitar recital by young musicians Lorenzo Bernardi and Nguyen Thanh Huy, who will perform pieces of the Vietnamese and Italian musical tradition – with a special tribute to Gioacchino Rossini on the 150th anniversary of his death -. In addition, the Vietnamese star Hong Nhung will sing an aria from Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” and a famous Vietnamese folk song.

The aim of the concert, entitled “A gift of life from gifted artists“, is to celebrate the beauty and variety of music, looking for a common denominator between the artistic expressions of the West and the East.

It is also significant that during the concert a silent charity auction will be held, the proceeds of which will be donated to the “Newborns Vietnam” association, which provides adequate care for the infants of less fortunate families.
