CELEBRATIONS ON THE OCCASION OF THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ROME TREATIES

The celebrations in Hanoi for the 60th Anniversary of the Treaties of Rome, which established the European Economic Community and the EURATOM and have been one of the founding moments of the European integration process, started this week with two significant events.

A conference organized in cooperation with the Department of Italian Studies of the Hanoi University, during which Ambassador Piccioni and Embassy officials explained the main stages of the European common path, highlighting the committed Italian contribution in every phase and outlining the next challenges the EU is confronted with.

A concert of classical music held at the Ambassador’s Residence has accompanied the guests along a thematic walkthrough that touched the 6 founding countries of the EEC and that was performed by six talented young musicians awarded by the Italian Foundation "IBLA".

After the concert, there was the opening of the exhibition "Ever closer union", created by the European University Institute and the Italian Foreign Ministry, which presents the qualifying moments of the European integration history and the achievements gained in 60 years of common history.

In the following days the Political Counsellors of the 6 funding countries of the European Community organized an informal reception at Casa Italia, mainly aimed at involving young colleagues from other Embassies and young Vietnamese from institutions and civil society.
