Rome presents to Vietnam its project for World Expo 2030

Hanoi, February 11, 2023The Italian Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ms. Maria Tripodi, pays a visit to Vietnam at the head of a delegation promoting the candidacy of Rome to host the World Expo 2030.

The World Expos

The World Expos are among the greatest events of our times. With more than 170 years of history, they provide a unique opportunity for participating Countries to display to the world their identity, their aspirations, their progress and technological achievements. World Expos welcome tens of millions of visitors, allowing Countries to build extraordinary pavilions and transforming the host city for years to come.

At the same time, World Expos are also global gatherings of nations committed to finding solutions to the most pressing challenges of our time, thus contributing to the development of mankind.

The Rome candidacy to World Expo 2030

It is with this spirit that the city of Rome presented its candidacy to host the World Expo in 2030, under the theme “People and Territories: Regeneration, Inclusion and Innovation”.

By 2050, metropolis will be home to two thirds of the world’s population. The relationship between people and territories is a pressing challenge that requires innovative solutions to ensure a sustainable balance between mankind and the environment.

Since its very foundation, Rome has succeeded in creating a new model of city, inclusive, interconnected and sustainable, with digital services and green spaces as an accessible and integral part of the urban habitat. For its history, heritage, creativity, its links with culture and science, Rome therefore represents the ideal place to promote a urban model based on innovation and sustainability.

A walk in the heart of Rome is enough to understand how deserved the title of Eternal City is. For almost three thousand years, the capital of Italy has offered an example of continuity, of the ability to adapt to changes and to reinvent the present. Located in the center of the Mediterranean and across three continents, it has always been a place where ideas and talents from different countries and cultures meet and blend.

The mission of Undersecretary Maria Tripodi

Undersecretary of State Maria Tripodi has come to Vietnam, on behalf of the Italian Government, to illustrate the project of Rome EXPO 2030 to Vietnamese authorities and public.

Undersecretary Tripodi is at the head of a delegation which includes the Special Envoy for Asia of the Promoting Committee, Prof. Romeo Orlandi; the Counsellor for International Relation of the Mayor of Rome, Mr. Ugo Papi; the Director of the Galleria Borghese Museum of Rome, Ms. Francesca Cappelletti, as well as representatives of major Italian companies such as Thales Alenia Space Italia, Fincantieri Group and Leonardo S.p.A.

In the next days, the Undersecretary and the other members of the delegation will meet representatives of the Vietnam Government and Vietnamese agencies to discuss opportunities of cooperation in the frame of Expo 2030.

The mission of Undersecretary Tripodi also marks the first visit to Vietnam of a representative of the Italian Government during the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two Countries and the 10th anniversary of the bilateral Strategic Partnership. To
celebrate the anniversary, on 11 and 12 February the Hanoi Opera House will host the concert “From Italy with Love”, with Italian classic and contemporary music performed by the Saigon Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Roma Expo 2030 project

The Expo in Rome 2030 will not be just another “exhibition”. On the contrary, Rome Expo 2030 is a joint project to be developed together with all those Countries who want to be part of it and join hands for a more sustainable and inclusive future. Rome offers to all participating Countries concrete projects of collaboration, centered on different national experiences and needs. Moreover, Rome Expo 2030 will give for the first time to participating Countries the opportunity to keep their pavilion after the end of the Exhibition. These will constitute an international research and development center on the themes of the Expo, while giving to each Country the opportunity to enjoy a permanent showcase in a founding member of the European Union and member of the G7.

The location of Roma Expo 2030

The Roma Expo 2030 is planned from May 1 to October 31, 2030 in Tor Vergata, a large area in the Southeast part of the capital. The area of Tor Vergata is home to one of Roma’s most prestigious universities, important research centers, as well as magnificent ancient and modern monuments. Developed by world-renown Italian architect Carlo Ratti, the site of Rome Expo 2030 will also produce clean energy for the surrounding areas.

The logo of Roma Expo 2030

The logo of Roma Expo 2030 is a stylized Roman arch with constantly changing colors and endless visual effects. For the first time in the history of Expo, the logo is a “Non-Fungible Token”, a unique piece of digital art based on block-chain technology.
